Air Liquide within the frame of its service activities on the European Space Launch Pad in French Guyana needed to expand the Liquid Hydrogen storage necessary for increasing Ariane V launches cadence The Advanced Technology Division of Air Liquide (DTA )already involved in all cryogenics equipment on the three Kourou launch pads took over the project of building and installing two large size Liquid Hydrogen storage.

FEROX was then awarded a contract by DTA consisting of the construction, under Air Liquide engineering design of two large size liquid hydrogen pressure vessels and their valve and pipe skid. The vessels, sized 110m³ and 360m³, are to be used for the storage of liquid hydrogen nearby the launching platform in Kourou (French Guyana).

The project was handled by a team of engineers from both Air Liquide DTA and Ferox and demanded an extra stretch of the capabilities of the FEROX plant in Decin, CZ.

During this project DTA team give FEROX team some helpful advices in cryogenic knowledge and insulation technology.

Both liquid hydrogen tanks left the Decin facility on 21 November 2002 and are installed on their final destination. The construction part of the project was realized in a record time of 5 months.
